Developmental intervention services are services rendered by a certified teacher with specialized training in children ages birth-five. Developmental Interventionists have training in all major areas of development (motor, cognitive, communication, adaptive and social skills), but often focus on the expansion of play, cognitive/language, pre-academic and social skills.

The Chatter Box offers services in the home on an individual basis or as part of a small group (for children between 24 and 36 months) that meets at the facility.

Playgroup

Led by our developmental interventionists. Serves children 2-3 years of age with and without developmental disabilities

Preschool

Led by a developmental interventionist with Master’s level teaching certificate. Serves children 3-5, with and without developmental disabilities.

Mallory has been working with the Chatter Box and First Steps since 2008. She loves working with children with many types of delays/diagnosis's, and her specialty runs with play, behavior, and social concerns. Along with seeing First Steps clients in home, she also teaches playgroup and preschool at The Chatter Box, and tutor children with dyslexia.  She sees First Steps clients primarily in the afternoon due to teaching preschool half day.

Liz has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from Western Kentucky University (2014) and a Master’s degree in IECE from the University of Louisville (2016).  She lives in Eastern Jefferson County with her husband and their Golden Retriever, Clyde.

Angela Smith, Developmental Interventionist. She is from Murray KY, Angela went to Murray State University and University of Louisville.  She has been with the Chatter Box since 2009, and works with children in-home and in our playgroup.

Shannon taught for Jefferson County Public Schools for one year and has been a Developmental Interventionist with First Steps for 5 ½ years. She completed undergraduate in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education, birth through 5 years. She completed her Masters of Arts in Education with reading and writing speciality at University of Cumberlands. She completed trainings from Laura Mize, SLP of Teach Me to Talk. Shannon has three children, one of which has gone through the First Steps program for sensory needs as well as high anxiety.
